What's on at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre

The Taekwondo NSW Winter Open will be held at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre on August 1st. This event is the premier event on the Taekwondo NSW calendar with athletes competing for the esteemed title of State Champion and the right to represent NSW at the Taekwondo Australia National Championships.

For all competitions in 2010 Taekwondo NSW are working in conjunction with Macquarie University on an injury study. Can all sparring athletes please fill in the injury study consent form to assist with vital data collection.

The official Australian & NSW Theatrical & Jazz Championships will be held once again in the Hall of Legends. This event will feature dancers from as young as 3 years right through to adults dancing the various genres of dance from jazz, lyrical, tap and hip hop.

The day is run in sessions with the younger competitors dancing in the morning in their individual events followed by Troupes then the Adults allowing for an early finish for the children. To assist with determing who will be crowned as the Australian champion in the various categories we have some dancers from the television shows Dancing With The Stars and So You Think You Can Dance joining our panel of judges.

The day starts nice and early, doors open at 8am with the first event at 8.45am and with a full program and record entries this year should finish at approximately 8.30pm.

Admission is $30 Adults and $22 for children and Aged Pensioners and tickets can be purchased at the door.

Test 2 – Australian Netball Diamonds v Jamaica Sunshine Girls in Sydney

The 2010 Holden Netball Test Series is the chance to experience international netball at its best!  See the Australian Netball Diamonds take on the flamboyant Jamaican Sunshine Girls before both teams head to the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.  Last year’s Test series sold out, so book early to avoid disappointment!

Established in 1979 to pay tribute to great athletes from NSW, the Hall of Champions is a sporting hall of fame and museum which has many of Australia’s greatest names on its honour roll – names such as Dawn Fraser, Don Bradman, Dally Messenger and Evonne Goolagong – sportsmen and women who have been elevated to the realm of national heroes.

This year there will be four athletes inducted into the NSW Hall of Champions being:

• Kerry June-Saxby OAM - Surf Lifesaving
• Dean Mercer OAM - Athletics
• Andrew Hoy - Equestrian

This weekend’s competition is a new format for Gymnastics NSW, for the first time we will experience Trampoline Sports with the Sports Centre, and we welcome together a new combination of Gymsports, Women's Gymnastics L1-10 State Stream, Sport Aerobics & Trampoline Sports Levels State Championships.

This is sure to be an exciting weekend with lots of different features for all spectators to view and experience.

The upcoming Gymnastics State Championships are the pinnacle for this level of rising talent and the big event all gymnasts look forward to on the Gymnastics NSW calendar. With this in mind it promises to be full of excitement showered with high quality performances.

The Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre will play host to the Junior Combined State Championships and is a great venue to watch gymnastics. This event will consist of over 1000 athletes across three Gymsports in the pursuit of team and individual success. The event will see Men’s Gymnastics Levels 1-5, Rhythmic Gymnastics Levels 1-6 and Women’s Gymnastics Levels 1-3 NDP.
