Hockey NSW

Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre is the home of Hockey NSW.

Hockey NSW is the state sporting organisation responsible for the development, governance, promotion and delivery of hockey programs throughout NSW. The Hockey NSW office is located in Level 3 of the hockey centre at both the north and south ends of the building.

Hockey is a unique family sport which can be played by men and women of all ages from young children to veterans and Hockey NSW covers all forms of field and indoor hockey for each of these groups.

Hockey is a fun and friendly sport, great for fitness for young and old – no experience needed.

Hockey NSW is the largest hockey playing state or territory in Australia.  It has 56 affiliated associations across the state and over 27,000 members.

Hockey NSW also has a close affiliation with the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS). The NSWIS men’s and women’s hockey programs are a part of the high performance pathway for Hockey NSW athletes and serve well to develop elite players for possible national team selection.

Sydney Olympic Park Hockey Centre is also the home for NSW premier hockey teams – the NSW Arrows and NSW Waratahs who compete in the Australian Hockey League (AHL) each year.  In 2010 the NSW Waratahs came agonising close to gold but were out-muscled by a dominant Queensland lineup.  In the women’s competition, the NSW Arrows claimed Bronze over Victoria in a match that featured 11 members of Australia’s Hockeyroos team!

Hockey NSW will host the opening round of the Women’s 2011 AHL series on 6-8th May when the teams from ACT, TAS and VIC come to town.  Then, from 6-13 August, Hockey NSW hosts the Men’s AHL Finals Week.  All teams competing in this year’s Men’s AHL will converge on Sydney for the last round of pool games, classifications, semi-finals and medal matches.  This will be a bumper week of hockey featuring Australia’s best male hockey talent – don’t miss it!
